“Christmas in Time” Open House Offers Rare Opportunity to Explore Brandon’s Historic Buildings
BRANDON, Miss. — The charm of Christmas past will come alive December 4 and 5 as the Brandon Garden Club presents “Christmas in Time,” a special Christmas Open House at the Brandon Historical Museum. In celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, the event will transport visitors to the mid-1800s, offering a glimpse into the traditions, decorations, and everyday life of an earlier era.
Members of the Brandon Garden Club will transform the museum’s historic buildings into a festive reflection of Christmas during the years 1850–1869. Through thoughtfully designed, period-inspired decorations, the club hopes to capture the simplicity, warmth, and timeless beauty of Christmas celebrations from generations past.
One of the highlights of this special event is the rare opportunity to step inside historic buildings that are not regularly open to the public. Visitors will be invited to explore the historic home and store, admire furnishings and artifacts from an earlier era, and experience firsthand a treasured piece of Brandon’s history. The beautifully decorated buildings will provide a unique setting where local history and holiday traditions come together.
The Brandon Garden Club is proud to both decorate and host this community event, combining its love of gardening, creativity, historic preservation, and community service. Club members look forward to sharing their efforts with the community and welcoming visitors into these special historic spaces.
Adding to the old-fashioned Christmas atmosphere, complimentary hot apple cider, hot cocoa, and cookies will be served for guests to enjoy as they take in the sights and sounds of the season. Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus will also be on hand to greet children and families. Visitors are encouraged to bring their cameras to capture special Christmas memories in this charming historic setting.
As America commemorates 250 years of independence, “Christmas in Time” offers an opportunity to reflect on the traditions, homes, and communities that have shaped our nation’s history. The Brandon Historical Museum serves as an important connection to the past, reminding visitors of the value of preserving local heritage for future generations.
The Christmas Open House will be held Friday, December 4, and Saturday, December 5, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. each evening, rain or shine. The museum is located behind the Brandon Library on Highway 80 in Brandon.
Admission is free, and no tickets are required. Donations will be gratefully accepted to support the museum’s continued efforts to preserve and share the history of Brandon and Rankin County.
The Brandon Garden Club warmly invites residents of Brandon, Rankin County, and surrounding communities to make “Christmas in Time” part of their holiday celebrations. Whether stepping inside historic buildings seldom open to the public, admiring the period-inspired decorations, enjoying seasonal refreshments, or sharing a special visit with Santa, guests will discover that some of the most meaningful Christmas experiences are those that bring history, tradition, and community together.
