This program brings together contemporary Louisvillian music and a cornerstone of the symphonic repertoire, all shaped by the idea of cycles and transformation. The concert opens with a world premiere by KiMani Bridges, a Louisville native whose connection to the Louisville Orchestra began as a teenager through mentorship and education programs. At the center of the evening is Seasons in America, composed and conducted by Teddy Abrams and featuring violinist Ray Chen.
The program concludes with Symphony No. 4 by Johannes Brahms, a powerful and deeply expressive work built on variation and return. From its introspective opening to its intense final movement, the symphony reflects on continuity and renewal, making it a resonant close to a program centered on time, place, and change.
This performance is part of our Coffee Series of concerts. The Baird Coffee Series brings the power of our Classics concerts to Friday matinees, offering a shorter, intermission free performance that fits easily into your day. Each program features a thoughtfully curated version of our evening repertoire, paired with complimentary Heine Brothers Coffee.
A favorite among seniors, students, professionals and groups, the Coffee Series has become a welcoming community tradition, an easy way to gather, connect, and experience great music together before the weekend begins.
