Brackish Books Presents: The BB SpeakeasyIn honor of Banned Books Week
Party with us like it's the Roaring Twenties on October 8th from 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM. This event features banned books, live storytelling, costume competitions, local authors, specialty cocktails, an audience Q&A, and more.
We are kicking the night off with a live presentation:
Whiskey in the Water: Bootleggers, Blood & the Lawless Eastern Shore

Songwriter, author, and storyteller J. Coursey Willis follows the rum runners, watermen, hidden taverns, and outlaw networks that turned the Chesapeake Bay into a smuggler’s highway. From Kent Island’s notorious Bootleggers tavern to a massive whiskey factory hidden on a Chesapeake island and the blood-spattered mystery of a dead lighthouse keeper, this fast-moving, 30-minute live storytelling experience uncovers the lawless Eastern Shore hiding beneath the glamour of the Roaring Twenties.
Along the way, Willis will dig into another piece of local drinking lore: the mysterious Kent Island Iced Tea, passed across bars and back rooms for generations.
