🏺 Box Building: Hard Slab Construction with Mishima Decorationwith Nancy Newlove McElroy
📅 Saturday, November 14 & Sunday, November 15
⏰ 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM each day
Explore the art of ceramic construction and surface design in this two-day workshop with Nancy Newlove McElroy at Jane’s Art Center!
During this workshop, you’ll learn the Mishima technique, a decorative process that creates beautiful designs by inlaying colored slip into incised lines on clay.
On Day 1, you’ll build a four-inch square box using leather-hard slabs of white B-Mix clay and map out your personal design.
On Day 2, you’ll bring your design to life by incising lines into the clay, filling them with black slip, and refining the surface to reveal your unique pattern. Your finished piece will be fired to cone 5, creating a cream-colored ceramic box with striking black linework.
✨ Inspired by ceramic artists Harrison McIntosh and Sumiko Takada, this workshop is a wonderful opportunity to explore detailed surface decoration and create a functional piece of art!
