Botanical watercolour workshop - Dahlias with Karen GreenSaturday 26th September 2026

Working from a selection of gorgeous dahlia flowers, you will learn how to compose, draw and paint from observation, using watercolour, to create a botanical painting that reflects an understanding of the subject whilst capturing the beauty of the plant.
Karen, a botanical artist, will ease you into the workshop with some playful sketching exercises alongside some botany exploration to help lead you into observational drawing and creating interesting compositions on the page. With one to one support and class demonstrations, you will experiment with watercolour techniques and accurate colour mixing, focusing on the ‘glazing’ technique where you build up layers of watercolour. During the session you will familiarize yourself with the materials and tools needed for botanical art and the techniques used, slowly building up layers of paint to create luminosity and depth.
