WORKSHOP DETAILS
The first hour will be in person led by Marty Boogie, of Born 2 Boogie Crew, covering the history and foundations of Popping.
The second hour will be a video seminar + Q&A led by Midnight of Los Angeles, zooming into the studio, where he will share his knowledge and experience on Robotics/Popping.
MARTY BOOGIE
Originally from Mississauga, ON, Marty began dancing in the early 90s, inspired by his DJ father. From street sessions to club battles, his passion for Popping led to him exchanging with dancers from around the world both rhythmically and intellectually, while also creating spaces for others to experience the Funk.
He’s the co-founder of Millennium Funk’n Battle, former President of one of Canada’s biggest street dance festivals VSDF, founder of Born 2 Boogie Crew, and co-founder of Born 2 Boogie Festival.
MIDNIGHT
Midnight is a Los Angeles street dance pioneer, performer, and community organizer whose journey in the art of Robot and Popping began in the mid 70’s. Growing up in LA, he began practicing Robotics in the streets in 1976 and Popping in 1978, and has remained active in the culture ever since. Known for his distinctive Robot, Popping, Mime, and Mannequin performance style, Midnight began entertaining and competing in parades in 1985.
In 2008, Midnight founded the OG Poppers Picnic (Popping in Tha Park), an annual gathering that has brought generations of Poppers together for nearly two decades. Through his performances, community gatherings, and continued dedication to the culture, Midnight has played an important role in preserving and celebrating the history and spirit of Los Angeles street dance.
