🎃🎻 Boos & Bows: A Woodland Halloween Cello ConcertAs daylight fades over Kleb Woods, join Wild Notes Foundation for a free, family-friendly evening of music, mystery, and woodland listening.
What happens to a familiar landscape when darkness changes the way we experience it?
Boos & Bows explores the sounds, stories, and imagination of the woods after dark through live solo cello and guided moments of listening to the landscape around us.
Cellist Amanda Guilfoyle will lead listeners through a roughly 30-minute musical journey ranging from the playful and familiar to the mysterious and unexpected. Hear Saint-Saëns' mischievous Danse macabre, the gothic energy of Paint It, Black, haunting selections from Bach's Fifth Cello Suite, and Pēteris Vasks' otherworldly Pianissimo from Grāmata čellam—a remarkable work in which the cellist's own voice becomes part of the music.
Between pieces, we'll explore how darkness changes the way we listen: why unfamiliar sounds capture our imagination, how humans have filled nighttime landscapes with stories for centuries, and what we can discover when we stop imagining what might be hiding in the woods and simply listen to what is actually there.
Come ready to listen, wonder, and enjoy a little Halloween mischief. 🌲🌙
🎃 Costumes are welcome!
🍬 Individually wrapped Halloween candy will be available after the concert. Children should receive candy with parent or guardian approval.
🪑 Please bring a camp chair or blanket for seating.
🎻 The concert is approximately 30 minutes and is completely acoustic and unamplified.
Finding Wild Notes:
The concert takes place outdoors behind the nature center near the trail. A detailed arrival map is available at wildnotes.org/woodland-nights.
🔭 Staying for Astronomy Night?
Harris County Precinct 4's Astronomy Night takes place after the Wild Notes concert. It is a separate event and requires its own advance registration through Precinct 4.
You do not need to register for Astronomy Night to attend Wild Notes.
After the concert, once it becomes dark, please avoid flashlights, phone flashlights, and other bright white lights so visitors' night vision isn't disrupted. Kleb Woods will provide red lighting, and guests are welcome to bring their own red-light flashlight or headlamp.
If skies are cloudy, Astronomy Night will still include indoor programming and activities, although telescopes will not be set up.
🌲 Wild Notes Foundation concerts are free and open to the community.
