About this Event
This is our second book choice at ScentSational Books and we shall be meeting on Tuesday 14th October at 6.30pm, upstairs at the Princess Louise pub on High Holborn, for relaxed chat about Jitterbug Perfume, by Tom Robbins; it's themes, symbology, diverse palette of intriguing characters and of course the evocative scent language used!
"In the bustling city of Seattle, Priscilla, a waitress with a hidden passion for chemistry, embarks on a quest to create a unique perfume. Her life is a delicate balance between the mundane and the mystical, as she navigates her daily routine while secretly pursuing olfactory perfection. The mysterious beets left at her doorstep symbolize the unknown forces guiding her journey, linking her personal escape to a broader, mystical narrative that unfolds throughout the story."
There's still time to read the book and join in the fun, so if you are smell-curious, a book-lover, budding writer, or simply seeking olfactory inspiration and escape, then a warm and fragrant welcome awaits you.
Just bring a sense of curiosity, an open mind and a keen sense of smell . I will bring along some fragrances and aromatics inspired by the book for everyone to sample, with the aim of stimulating your noses and imagination.
The third tantalising title will also be announced .
Fee £11.00*
*Fee helps cover any admin fees incurred through hosting, a drink at each meet which helps support the venue and oil the wheels of sociability; occasional sensory gifts to accompany the title, fragrance pairings at each meet and one lucky dip prize at each meet.
ScentSational Books – is a bookclub all about fragrance as a literary muse; whether smell or perfume form the backbone of a fictional story, or the use of olfactive language is so richly evocative that it transports us to a different era, country or mood. We shall also explore non-fiction books such as biographies, botanical histories, and some more tenuous titles!
It is appreciated if you have read the book, as it makes for a more edifying experience, but the bookclub is open to anyone that has a sensory interest in literature and you will be more than welcome to join in the relaxed chat, exchange of ideas, smelling and sampling!
The fee is refundable if the cancellation occurs 1 week or more before the event, or you can contact me to transfer your place to another meeting date. I recommend you RSVP in advance to book your space. I will close the RSVP 3 days before the event, to allow sufficient time to finalise numbers for the venue.
