International book club in Bratislava at A4 - Space for Contemporary Culture! The A4 Bookclub is satisfying the cravings of the book-obsessed community at A4.Philippine Saint-Yves and María Noguera Castañer from the volunteer staff were going to several book clubs in Bratislava and Vienna, but it wasn’t enough. They started to share their favorite reads with each other, and that’s how the A4 Bookclub started.
After a first encounter discussing Bonjour Tristesse by Françoise Sagan (María’s choice) they have landed on Reservoir Bitches by Dahlia de la Cerda (Philippine’s choice). It is a powerful collection of short stories about women on all sides of the violent background of Mexican gangs and cartels. While crude and visceral, it is also a fun read: the writing is colorful and passionate, and it exudes love for women and for Mexico.
The aim of this book club is to exchange thoughts and ideas about the books, to deepen the reading experience (which doesn’t end when you turn the last page!) by making a longer-lasting memory and a stronger impression on our minds.
These sessions are conducted in English, but feel free to read the book in your language of choice. 🙂
