On Thursday, October 22, the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, in partnership with the Smithsonian, will host Richard Kurin, Smithsonian Distinguished Scholar and Ambassador-at-Large, at 6 p.m. at the Old Capitol Museum. Kurin’s latest work, "History by a Hair: Thomas Jefferson, Sally Hemings & Solving a 200-Year-Old Mystery," tells the story of a light red hair found in Thomas Jefferson’s Bible and its implications for the 200-year-old controversy surrounding the paternity of the children of Sally Hemings, one of hundreds of African Americans enslaved by Thomas Jefferson. Copies of the book will be available for purchase, and a book signing will be held before and after the program. For more information, call 601-576-6850 or email [email protected].
