When The Lagoon Decides, although grounded in documented history, it is above all, a work of historical fiction. It follows the lives of rulers, merchants, priests, warriors and ordinary families as they navigate a rapidly changing world, exploring questions of leadership, identity, memory and belonging through the experiences of people whose stories have rarely found a place in English-language fiction.
