Join us for a conversation on the story of the scandal in the LBJ administration that brought queer life into national political thought.About this Event
Tim Stewart-Winter’s book OUTED, covers the arrest and aftermath of Lyndon B. Johnson’s longest-serving and most trusted advisor, Walter Jenkins. In 1964, Jenkins was arrested for soliciting sex in a YMCA bathroom near the White House. The scandal blasted across the front pages of major US newspapers, becoming a watershed in making straight America aware of queer life. Stewart-Winter is joined by Hugh Ryan, historian and co-host of the Queer History 101 podcast, for a conversation about the conditions of queer folks during the “Walter Jenkins affair” and its political and cultural aftershocks.
Copies of Outed will be available for purchase. Both authors will be available after the event for a signing.
