About this Event
For over 100 years, from 1497 to 1606, the Portuguese dominated the Indian Ocean trade as they extended their maritime empire across Asia, their Maritime Empire was the first and last colonial empire in Asia; outlasting the Spanish, Dutch, English and French; it existed for almost 500 years, from the capture of Goa in 1509 until Macau was returned to China in 1999.
This new book follows the Portuguese voyages and the expansion of their trading Empire across the eastern seas from Goa to Malacca, from Malacca to the Indonesian Spice Islands, from Malacca to Solor and Timor, from Malacca to Macau, and from Macau to Nagasaki.
Ian Burnet is an Australian-based traveler, writer and historian.
