About this Event
Join us for the launch of Dr Michelle Stevenson's 'Melbourne's Palace: The Royal Exhibition Building and Carlton Gardens'! Stevenson will be in conversation with Jaclyn Crupi.
The Royal Exhibition Building, surrounded by the magnificent Carlton Garden, epitomises the spirit and history of Melbourne. Built for the Melbourne International Exhibition held in 1880-81, the site was granted UNESCO World Heritage status in 2004 – the first building in Australia to achieve that honour. 'Melbourne's Palace' is filled with beautiful images, provides expert knowledge of the site’s rich heritage and shares a wealth of fascinating stories connected to it.
Dr Michelle Stevenson is Head of the History & Technology department at the Museums Victoria Research Institute. She has overseen the heritage and interpretation of the Royal Exhibition Building for over a decade and led major initiatives. Michelle is co-chair of the Australian World Heritage Advisory Committee, Treasurer of the Museum Historians Network, and a board member and honorary curator of the National Alpine Museum of Australia.
Jaclyn Crupi is a book editor, author, event moderator and awards judge.
