Book Launch: Lina Mounzer presents Janus City: The Many Faces of Beirut
In conversation with John Freeman
Writer and translator Lina Mounzer launches Janus City, a lyrical essay interweaving personal, political, and mythological histories of Beirut: as much a place of beguiling legend as it is of political disaster. Featuring original artwork by Jana Traboulsi, Janus City is a tribute to a beloved, complicated city, and an attempt to understand what it means to make home in a place balanced eternally on the rim of disaster. This book is a part of OR SHORTS: an annual series of brief and beautiful works unified by voice-driven and incisive writing, elegant design and printing, and leftist politics approached through contemporary cultural criticism. John Freeman, writer and senior editor at Knopf, joins Mounzer for a reading and discussion, before an audience Q&A and signing!
