About this Event
Rev Dr Ash Barker is launching his tenth book, At the Scent of Water.
At the Scent of Water is for the tired, the hopeful, and the quietly convinced: the local catalysts who still believe place matters. For those done with meetings about meetings, and ready to grow something real, right where they live.
Your neighbourhood does not need another programme. It needs you, planted, present, and awake to what God is already doing.
Drawing on 35 years in urban communities from Melbourne to Bangkok to Birmingham, Ash Barker walks you through a pathway he has tested where he has lived: find the hidden catalysts already on your doorstep, form them through practices rather than programmes, and release them into flourishing together.
Through raw, hope-filled stories of people doing patient work in hard places, this book shows that renewal is already stirring beneath the surface of your street, your neighbourhood, your congregation.
The water is closer than you think. And at the scent of water, even the oldest stumps can live again.
"I’ve personally seen Ash live this book out in Winson Green and Bangkok. He can guide you too.” - Shane Claiborne
Rev Dr Ash Barker has spent over three decades planting his life in urban priority areas in Australia, Asia, and the UK. He founded Seedbeds, an ecosystem that finds, forms, and releases local catalysts into neighbourhood flourishing. Since 2014 he has lived in Winson Green, inner-city Birmingham, where he serves as a local United Reformed Church minister.
The book launch will feature talk, reading and a Q&A with Rev Dr Ash Barker, music, light refreshments and book sales.
