A guide at a remote hunting-and-fishing lodge between Yarmouth and Digby taught Sandra Phinney to paddle a canoe when she was just six. Finding solace on the water and along wooded paths would define her life. As a shy child, she learned to notice people, places, and experiences. Even a stick she finds in the forest, engraved by a beetle, captures her attention. As does getting tattoos, the history of condoms, folk art, the relativity of time, and her mother’s weird recipe for rappie pie.
In her new memoir, Busted, Sandra confronts life head-on with pluck, warmth and wit, sharing experiences full of adventure and insight, sometimes tension and always texture.
When you read about her arrest at age 75 while taking part in a forest blockade, you’ll appreciate the depth of her passion for saving old forests and at-risk species. Tuck in themes of love, family, survival, resilience, and redemption, and you've got the fabric of her life.
Above all, Sandra Phinney is a riveting storyteller; she entertains and enlightens.
