Join me for a special evening celebrating the official release of The Spirit of Fearless Living: A Hmong Journey Through War and Refuge, published by the Minnesota Historical Society Press.This evening marks a milestone six years in the making—a labor of love and a journey to bring my mother’s story into the world.
This book is more than one woman’s story. It is a celebration of Hmong stories, our survival, our immigration and refugee experience, and the strength of the generations who came before us. It is also a story of a mother and daughter, and of the deeper understanding and connection that grew between us through the telling of her life.
Tonight, we come together to celebrate my mother, Mee Thao, the story she entrusted to me, and the journey of bringing that story to life. We also celebrate our shared Hmong heritage, the power of storytelling, and what this book means to both of us—and to the generations who will carry these stories forward.
