About this Event
Algorithms of War - book launch is an in-person event for readers interested in AI, warfare and civilian protection.
About the book
Join Prof Luke Moffett to mark the launch of his new book, Algorithms of War, published by Bristol University Press. AI and algorithms increasingly shape modern warfare through surveillance and targeting. Although they promise precision, they can conceal significant civilian harm.
Drawing on testimony from conflicts around the world, including Ukraine and Gaza, the book moves beyond the binary debate over prohibition or promotion. It shows how algorithmic logic can distance decision-makers from victims, and argues for preserving humanity through better design and governance. A people-centred approach, the book argues, is essential to accountability, civilian protection and the legitimacy of military operations as AI reshapes the battlefield.
