Filled with terrifying bumps in the night, queer longing, and Texas hospitality. What happens when the quiet one finally seeks revenge?
About this Event

“In this terrifying small-town tale filled with female rage and complicated family dynamics, Rebekah Faubion’s ambition knows no bounds. She weaves an inescapable nightmare, compelling you to confront even your own darkest secrets. I loved every moment of this dark and cathartic novel.”—Monika Kim, internationally Bestselling author of The Eyes Are the Best Part and Molka

We're thrilled to welcome Rebekah Faubion to The Twisted Spine in conversation with Madison Tyler Nelson and Tiffany Gonzalez on November 5!

About WHAT A NIGHTMARE:

They called her a nightmare, so she became one.
Haven Powers has spent years trying to disappear. Once a loud, troublemaking girl who defied every expectation in her small town of Friendship, Texas, now she’s learned to hide her fire behind a quiet receptionist’s smile. It’s safer that way—for her, and for everyone else.
When an unsettling encounter with her predatory boss cracks open the tightly locked box inside her, Haven dreams a terrifying dream about him, only to wake up and discover it’s come true; he’s dead. Desperate to gain control of this deadly power once and for all, Haven returns home.
Welcomed suspiciously with open arms, Haven is immediately met with the ghosts of her past. Under the suffocating pressure of the town and her family who believe obedience is next to godliness, Haven soon finds herself on a path to revenge. She’ll show them what happens when the girl they called too much, too loud, too everything, finally lets her demons loose.

About the speakers:

Rebekah Faubion is a queer author and screenwriter living in Los Angeles. Her books include the YA thriller Lost Girls of Hollow Lake, the sapphic rom-coms The Lovers and The Sun and the Moon, and her forthcoming adult horror debut What a Nightmare. She enjoys reading tarot, bingeing horror novels way past her bedtime, and thinking up places to bury the body—for the plot, of course.

Former bookseller turned Indie Retail Marketing Manager at Simon & Schuster, Tiffany Gonzalez has spent her career championing books and connecting readers with stories they’ll love. A lifelong lover of all things creepy and haunting, horror is always at the forefront of her reading—and has a very special place in her heart. When she’s not working with independent bookstores, you can usually find her with a horror novel in hand, happily seeking out her next scare.

Saratoga Schaefer (they/them) is the USA Today bestselling and Indie Press bestselling author of Serial Killer Support Group, Trad Wife, The Last Time We Drowned, and A Thousand Monstrous Forms. Their books have been featured in Variety, People, Cosmopolitan, and Glamour, and their writing has appeared in Writer’s Digest, CrimeReads, and more. Originally from Brooklyn, Saratoga now lives upstate with several needy animals and a haunted clown table.

Madison Tyler Nelson has considered herself a writer since she received her first rejection letter at nine years old, and has been crafting dark, speculative stories ever since. While she (sadly) can’t see ghosts, Portrait of a Haunting was inspired by her childhood of growing up with incarcerated parents. She lives in New York with her husband and very loud Norwegian Elkhound.
