Book Art Workshop: Dragon Scale Books

You will learn to make a simplified modern version of an ancient Chinese scroll form called a dragon-scale. By creating sequential pages you can tell a simple story by laying the pages alternately back and forth. Materials and pre-cut templates will be provided for you to make a ready designed book but you are welcome to experiment with modifying the format or create your own images.

Frances Day has been making artists’ books for over a decade and her work is held in many collections and museum in several countries. Much of her work is focused on structure that complements content, and the dragon-scale book is a recurring theme in her work.
