Burnside.

✩✩✩✩✩ One of Belgium’s very best and hardest-rocking blues bands has something to celebrate. Boogie Beasts turn 15, and this year also marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of R.L. Burnside, one of their greatest inspirations.
They’re celebrating with the roaring new album Don’t Be So Mean! and a brand-new live show dedicated to Burnside and the North Mississippi Hill Country Blues.
This is the music where it all started for Boogie Beasts. Hypnotic, repetitive, dirty and irresistible. With Don’t Be So Mean!, they return to those roots and pay tribute to the legacy of R.L. Burnside, while unmistakably making the music their own.
And they brought some serious names along for the ride. Duwayne Burnside, R.L. Burnside’s son, sings on two tracks. Kenny Brown, Burnside’s longtime guitarist and right-hand man, also appears on two songs. Luther Dickinson, frontman of North Mississippi Allstars and former guitarist with The Black Crowes, adds slide guitar. G. Love, Pablo van de Poel of DeWolff and Cedric Maes of The Sore Losers also join the project.
For this new live show, Boogie Beasts dive deep into the world of R.L. Burnside and the Hill Country Blues. The setlist features songs from Don’t Be So Mean!, alongside other classics from the genre. The raw intensity, hypnotic rhythms and trance-like drive have been part of the band’s DNA since day one.
Since their first show in 2011, Jan Jaspers, Patrick Louis, Fabian Bennardo and Gert Servaes have built a formidable live reputation at home and abroad. They’ve played clubs and festivals throughout Europe and supported the likes of The Fabulous Thunderbirds, The Sonics and Andre Williams. Their album Love Me Some was voted the fourth best album of 2021 by listeners of Classic 21.
