What is Bon-odori?
It’s not Tai Chi.
It’s not Karate.
It’s a traditional dance from Japan!
Bon-odori is a Japanese folk dance, most often performed outdoors and danced in concentric circles.
It is a public, participatory dance enjoyed by people of all ages — young and old, men and women, experienced dancers and complete beginners.
Each region of Japan has its own varieties of Bon-odori, reflecting its unique local culture and heritage.
With a little practice, anyone can dance Bon-odori!
At our monthly dance sessions, you’ll learn and experience different Bon-odori dances from various regions of Japan — each with its own music, movements and character.
Come along, have fun, and discover the joy of Bon-odori!
What to wear
No need to bring a partner. Just come along in loose-fitting, comfortable clothes and comfortable footwear.
Kimono or yukata are very welcome if you have one!
