About this Event
Abigaël Ama is a Dutch multi-instrumentalist, composer, singer and songwriter based in Amsterdam. She holds a Master’s degree in Contemporary Performance from Berklee College of Music. She spent ten years singing classical with Vocaal Talent, working with conductors including Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Simon Rattle and Jaap van Zweden. She studied violin with Coosje Wijzenbeek and later taught herself guitar and piano.
Her music is rooted in storytelling and harmony, with a focus on space and simplicity: less is more.
Her debut album, Vueltas, explores loss, growth and movement. Much of the album was recorded in one take, with instrumentation by Henry Galli (guitar, Brazil), Jorge
Cabezas (bass, Colombia) and Milli McFall (piano, USA).
For this album, Abigaël also returned to her classical roots, creating violin arrangements for several songs.
Abigaël has performed at Oerol and Landjuweel, as well as venues in the Netherlands and Spain, including Club Matisse, La Vitti, La Xarranta in València and Intruso in Madrid. She has opened for Brazilian singer-songwriter Leo Middea at his sold-out shows and made her NPO debut with “Falta Tu Voz.
”
With Vueltas, Abigaël brings together her classical background, love for Latin American music and contemporary songwriting.
