What to Expect
Office Hours with Sara Cherny (2–3 PM)
Office Hours are a chance to get personalized feedback on your dancing, whether you’re just starting out or looking to deepen your blues practice.
You’ll dance solo or with a partner for about a minute while Sara offers feedback on things like:
• blues aesthetic
• musicality
• movement quality
• partnering (if applicable)
You can even choose the intensity of feedback — mild, medium, or spicy 🌶️
Jess and Mark will be available as partners if you need one, or you can dance with a classmate. Music will be provided, featuring styles such as Chicago, Delta, and Ballroom blues across a variety of tempos.
Office Hours slots are 5 minutes each. Sign up and select the Office Hours option during checkout.
Finding the Groove (Workshop 3–5 PM)
Have you taken a blues class and wondered what to do next?
Or maybe you’ve been dancing for a while and want to add more rhythm, creativity, and play to your dancing.
This workshop focuses on strengthening fundamentals while exploring new rhythms and movements. We’ll refine the basics and share ideas to help you connect more deeply with the music and bring more expression and variety to your social dancing.

About the Teachers
Sara Cherny
Sara Cherny has over 20 years of experience as a blues dancer, teacher, and organizer. Although she stepped away from organizing in 2020, she remains deeply connected to the community and continues to dance. Sara loves helping dancers discover what moves them and is passionate about preserving the traditions and history of blues dance and music. She’s also always happy to grab a drink and dive into the classic blues question: “But is that blues?”
Mark Castillo
Mark discovered blues dance after spotting a flyer in a California hostel. More than a decade later, he’s still traveling the country for live music and late-night dancing. Mark loves the improvisational nature of blues dance and enjoys sharing what he’s learned with others. When he’s not dancing, you can find him exploring Chicago’s food scene.
