Three poets performing - 7.30pm start. FREE entry - details of the poets below
Bernadette McAloon is a poet and recipient of a Basil Bunting Award, and winner of several prizes. Her Blueprint pamphlet, A Queen of Rare Mutations, is redolent with a sense of place, conveying a past-invaded present, time embedded in the stages of a woman’s life, haunted by the old ways she tries to leave behind. There is beauty and struggle, portrayed with an intimacy which invites you in.
Michael Brown is a prize winning poet from Middlesbrough, currently studying for a PHD at Loughborough University. He has published several collections of poetry. His Blueprint pamphlet, The Dens, is a sensitive, expertly crafted exploration of a working class boyhood, and the journey through to manhood. The poet explores his relationship to place with the delicacy and tenderness reminiscent of a Terence Davies film.
MW Bewick is a poet, editor, journalist, occasional lecturer and musician. He lives in Wivenhoe, Essex, and together with his wife, the artist Ella Johnston, runs Dunlin Press. His pamphlet, Borderlands explores the shifting dividing lines between places, between people, between emotion and intellect, between thought and language. Contemporary issues haunt the poems, as a dark backdrop to the necessities of domestic life.
