Building Understanding. Building Safety.Macon County is proud to host the Blue Envelope Safety Experience, a hands-on community event designed to help individuals on the autism spectrum, their families, caregivers, and the community become more familiar and comfortable with emergency responders.
This event provides an opportunity to learn, practice, ask questions, and build confidence before an emergency interaction ever occurs.
💙 What is the Blue Envelope?
The Blue Envelope is a resource designed to help communicate that an individual may have autism and may communicate, respond to questions, or react to emergency situations differently.
During the event, participants will learn how the Blue Envelope works, how to use it, and how it can assist during interactions with law enforcement.
🚔 What You'll Experience
Participants will have the opportunity to:
✔️ Learn about the Blue Envelope program
✔️ Participate in a mock traffic stop using the Blue Envelope
✔️ Meet and interact with Police, Fire & EMS responders
✔️ Ask questions in a relaxed, supportive environment
✔️ Become more familiar with emergency vehicles and equipment
✔️ Build confidence for future interactions with first responders
✔️ Take home a Blue Envelope for future use
🚒 Touch the Truck
Participants will also have the opportunity to meet first responders and explore emergency vehicles through our Touch the Truck experience.
This is an opportunity to see the people and equipment behind emergency response in a setting that is designed to be welcoming, educational, and low-pressure.

Whether you are an individual who may use the Blue Envelope, a parent or caregiver, or simply someone who wants to better understand autism and emergency response, you are welcome.
💙 Why We Are Doing This
Project SAFER Spectrum — Sensory Awareness for Emergency Response — works to improve interactions and outcomes between individuals on the spectrum and the emergency response community through education, training, tools, and awareness.
