Please note the Blue Velvet Film Club will only meet and discuss the film at the Sunday, October 11th, screening. There are still two other chances to see it. Blue Velvet Film Club is a monthly movie screening series created to look beyond the surface of cinema. Each screening invites audiences to explore the many elements that bring a film to life. From color theory, cinematography, costume design, sound and music to themes, storytelling and cultural context.
While the club has a particular focus on Black cinema, we also make room for films from across genres and eras that spark curiosity and conversation. Each screening begins with a pre-film discussion designed to introduce themes and details to look out for throughout the film.
Attendees are also provided with a notebook and pen to take notes, sketch, write down observations or simply document their experience. Participation is completely optional, we simply want to create space for people to engage with film as deeply and creatively as they choose.
At its heart, Blue Velvet Film Club is about making the moviegoing experience more intentional, creative and fun while building community around the stories that move us. We want to explore what makes Black cinema, and cinema as a whole, so powerful, memorable and worthy of revisiting.

ABOUT JOHNDEN CLARK
Johnden Clark is a graphic artist, clothing designer and cinephile from Pottstown, Pennsylvania. For Johnden, movies have always been more than entertainment. They have been a way to escape the noise and chaos of the world and a source of inspiration.
Rewatching a film and discovering something new each time. The way a scene is framed, a particular color, a costume, a line of dialogue, a musical cue or an underlying theme, is what makes cinema so special to him. Film has influenced Johnden’s personal style, creative work and approach to design, ultimately inspiring the creation of Blue Velvet Film Club.
The club was created as a way to bring together people who share that same curiosity and love for cinema—to watch together, look deeper and connect through the stories on screen.
