We’re so pleased to invite our community into the artistic process for our workshop of Black Rock, USA, an original opera by Tripp J Crouse and Spencer Edgers.Black Rock, USA is a full-length opera that explores themes of labor rights and queerness within the context of a fictional 1890s mining town. Penelope and her community navigate the coal mine by day and the saloon/brothel by night, asking the question “What if we had a world guided by love, rationality, and equality?”
Made possible by a Juneau Community Foundation Arts Vibrancy Award and now a collaboration with Juneau Lyric Opera, Orpheus Project, and the Juneau Arts & Humanities Council, Black Rock, U.S.A. is scheduled to be workshopped October 19-25 at the Juneau Arts & Culture Center, culminating in a pay-as-you-can public concert performance on Sunday, October 25th.
The work features a 25-person orchestra, 16-person chorus, 5-person cast, 3-person saloon “house band”, and a small production crew, totaling over 50 working artists from Juneau and Southeast Alaska.
Admission is pay-as-you-can, but seating is limited!
