The Global Majority Network and the Stephen Lawrence Research Centre warmly invite all members of the Global Majority Network, colleagues from all DMU Staff Networks, students, allies and anyone with an interest in equality, inclusion and social justice to a special Black History Month event exploring race, belonging, wellbeing and institutional responsibility within higher education.
Dr Camille London-Miyo, Racial Literacy Lead at the Stephen Lawrence Research Centre, will present a summary of a paper that she contributed to in collaboration with academics from Botswana, Canada and the UK:
Safeguarding Whilst Black: Teacher Preparation, Care and Staff Experience of Reporting Racism in Universities in Botswana, Canada and England

This important comparative study examines how racism is experienced, reported and responded to within higher education institutions, offering critical insights into staff wellbeing, safeguarding, care and institutional accountability. The paper is also being presented to staff and students at the Open University and contributes to growing international discussions on racial justice in higher education.
The presentation will provide an opportunity for reflection, learning and dialogue, combining lived experience, institutional critique and research evidence to explore how universities can create environments in which all staff and students feel valued, supported and able to thrive.
