Bitter Rivals is part cocktail class and part friendly showdown. Two of our Bartenders each bring their own twist on the Old Fashioned and fight for your vote. You'll learn what makes the Classic "Father of all Cocktails" tick, taste three full-sized Old Fashioneds, and help decide who wins. No bartending experience needed on your part! Whether you drink whiskey regularly or have only watched someone else make one, you'll leave knowing how it's done - and maybe keep an idea or two for mixing it up yourself at home...
What your $35 ticket includes:
🥃 The Class (Learn + Stir)
• A guided Old Fashioned workshop at The Church
• The essentials: the spirit, sugar (syrup), bitters, ice, and garnish provided
• Bar Technique tips on stirring, dilution, and expressing a peel
🍸 Three Full-Size Old Fashioneds (Sip)
• Start by learning the award-winning 3rd Turn Old Fashioned of Jeffersontown - Our classic recipe, served first as your baseline. This is the standard both bartenders have to tweak. This one isn't part of the vote.
• Two rival Old Fashioneds. Two bartenders, two recipes, one crown. Each has their own spin on the classic and a pitch for why theirs belongs in your hand. Expect secret ingredients, big talk, and a little friendly trash talk. They'll make their case, teach you their ways, and you'll decide who's right.
• These are full-size cocktails, not tiny samples. Come with plans (or friends to share with!) on how to spend the rest of your evening (& getting home safely).
🗳️ The Vote (Vote)
• After tasting both competing OF's, every student in the class votes for their favorite rival.
• The most popular rival wins the title, prize, and bragging rights!
🎶 The Night
• An evening in our historic church-turned-brewery
• Snacks or Light Bites encouraged to Bring with you to keep the night going- we will be offering servings of our House Chef Lee's Award winning 3 Bean + Bison Chili to purchase if you'd like to eat something warm as you imbibe. A small bowl will be available to purchase for $6 [crackers & spoons provided, of course; Cornbread side too for an upcharge!]
