About this Event
We'll talk about (and hopefully see) some of the birds that are new to this restored area, including Bald Eagle, Osprey, Red Shouldered Hawk, Coopers Hawk, Merlins and various migrating warblers. Depending on the tide we may see Semipalmated Sandpiper, Kildeer, White Rumped Sandpiper, Great Egret, Green Heron, Great Blue Heron, or Snowy Egret. Butch will show participants new to birding how to use the Merlin app and when and where to go to have the best opportunity to see some of these amazing species. Wear boots or shoes that can get muddy, bring bug spray, and binoculars (optional).

I became interested in birds when I was a Boy Scout in the 1950's. At that time, I bought my first bird book, which I still have. Around 1968 I bought my first 35mm camera. That led to attempts to photograph birds with limited success. As I aged, equipment and technology Improved so did my success rate. My bird photography has improved to the point where it has been published in Yankee Magazine, National Wildlife Federation's Christmas Catalog, Audubon Society's Calendar and their quarterly magazine, Travel & Leisure Magazine as well as local and regional newspapers. My photography was also used by the Academy of Natural Science's Journal of Raptor Research to document newly discovered Osprey behavior which I was credited with discovering.
