In recognition of Birdability Week, October 19–25, we’re exploring locations, tools, and different ways of birding that can help make birding more accessible, inclusive, and welcoming. These outings are for everyone, including our regular bird walk participants!
We’ll slow things down and make time to sit, chat, watch, and listen. We’ll also try out some fun birding tools and technology, including spotting scope attachments, phone and binocular adapters, Merlin Bird ID, eBird and live feeder cams. You might find a new way to enjoy birding or something you can share with a friend or family member!
With several guides, you can explore farther down the trail or stay closer and let the birds come to you.
Know someone who might enjoy birding with us? Invite them along! If there’s something we can do to help you participate comfortably, please let us know at [email protected]
Birdability reminds us that birding is for everybody and every body!
Thursday, October 22 | Sarsaparilla Trail
Richmond Road • NCC Greenbelt P7
A short 0.9 km loop through the forest with gravel and firm forest paths and no major inclines. Along the way, there are a few benches for resting and a newly constructed wooden lookout overlooking the marsh.
Near the trailhead, there is an outhouse and a covered picnic shelter with tables nestled right in the forest. This will give us a great home base to explore the birding tools and for anyone who would like to spend more time sitting and birding in one area.
