BIRD, the Lustrum Award Winner at Edinburgh Fringe 2023, is a stage sequel to AKDC’s critically acclaimed dance film ‘Catch The Bird Who Won’t Fly’ choreographed by Amina Khayyam.BIRD started in a workshop with a women’s group, where a participant asked, “What happens to a woman when she runs away from domestic abuse?” a question often targeted at the stigma in communities of those who escape it or try to.
Five Kathak dancers weave the story to a specially commissioned live music score, featuring sitar, cello and tabla. BIRD is the stage sequel to Amina Khayyam Dance Company’s critically acclaimed dance film ‘Catch The Bird Who Won’t Fly’ .
