BIPOC Therapist Social

Come join us at McCarren Parkhouse for a BIPOC Therapist Social!

This is an opportunity for BIPOC Therapists to breathe, share, and be in community with others who understand the unique weight we carry in this work. So often, we pour into others while holding the complexities of our identities, often in isolation. But healing work isnโ€™t meant to happen alone.

Whether you're a seasoned therapist, just starting out, or somewhere in between, you are welcome here.

Guest Speaker

Ashley Lagrange (they/them)

Ashley Marie Lagrange, (They/Them) is a therapist, collage artist and organizer born, raised and currently residing in Queens, New York to a multigenerational household with Dominican parents. Ashley works in the day as a politicized therapist and coach for the QTBIPOC population which stemmed from their lived experience with madness and grassroots peer support organizing. Ashley is also a Collage Artist, having taught Collage as Liberation classes at The Peoples Forum, as well as facilitated spaces on Agitation Propaganda

Elizabeth Cavic (they/she)

Elizabeth (they/she) is a doctoral student in clinical psychology at Teachers College, Columbia University who broadly focuses on promoting psychological wellness among LGBTQ+ young and young adults of color. Their program of research aims to: (1) further develop the minority stress literature regarding LGBTQ+ youth and young adults of color, (2) explore how this population leverages support to cope with identity-based stressors, and (3) develop multi-level interventions to promote psychosocial wellbeing among this population. Elizabeth completed their EdM and MA in Counseling at Teachers College, Columbia University, and their BS in Human Development at Cornell University.

Info: Ashley will share how collage is a tool for care. They will share some of their personal experience using it as a tool for coping and recovering from self harm, as well as it capabilities for processing political distress.

Info: This presentation will focus on exploring the recent uptick in anti-trans state- and federal-level legislation and its impacts on both patients and providers. We will conclude with brief recommendations, resources, and a call to action.
