Described as 'a love letter to an Ayrshire childhood', Billy's book describes life in the working class community of Galston.About this Event
Billy Kay is a master storyteller and a distinguished television and radio producer with seminal series like Radio4/Radio Scotland's Odyssey series in his back catalogue. Billy wrote 'The Mither Tongue', Knee Deep in Claret and the drama documentary "Jute", and his work to promote Scots was recently recognised by an honorary degree from Dundee University. 'Born in Kyle' covers life in the working class, mining community of Galston in the early 1960s ... songs, gambling, religion, football cards, paraffin heaters and the last game of football (ever?) at the height of the Cuban missile crisis. Burns Club members will contribute songs chosen by Billy to complement the narrative.
