Billibellary’s different courage with Professor Richard Broome

Presented by the Coburg Historical Society. This lecture will explore Aboriginal responses to European colonisation. It will focus on Woiwurrung elder Billibellary and his responses to the European invasion of Woiwurrung lands that brought imminent cultural economic and demographic devastation. Billibellary’s responses will be compared with, and illuminated by, those of Plenty Coups, a man of the Crow nation in North America, who faced the same situation a few decades later.
