About this Event
Event Overview
Join the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC) on Thursday, October 22nd from 4:00pm - 7:00pm to help unbox helmets for 5th graders across Rhode Island. Each helmet needs to be unbagged, attached to a visor, and stickered with the WRWC logo.
Come for as much time as you can, eat some snacks, and work together with other people who are passionate about getting kids safely on bikes! We have 200 boxes of helmets to unbox and would love your help.
We'll be working in the 50 Sims hallway near the entrance to the Lefty Loosey Bike Collective.
Background on Bike Safety Education with WRWC
Founded in 2019, The Rhode to Bicycle Safety (R2BS) is a program of the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council in partnership with the Rhode Island Department of Transportation. R2BS empowers 5th-grade students across Rhode Island with the skills and confidence to safely ride their bikes—for transportation, exercise, and fun.
Each year, R2BS reaches over 1,000 students through a comprehensive 180-minute course, delivered in four sessions during regular school hours. The program blends classroom learning with on-bike instruction, ensuring students gain practical, real-world cycling experience in a safe environment.
Every student who completes the The Rhode to Bicycle Safety program leaves with a helmet and new confidence to ride a bike safely in their community.
