Book Club Salida is excited to partner with Salida School District, Chaffee County Public Health, and Family and Youth Initiatives for this semester’s Big Read Book Club, featuring The Addiction Inoculation by Jessica Lahey. Join us on Friday, October 16 at 9 am for a presentation and Q&A with author Jessica Lahey, a light breakfast, and guided book discussion. Pre-registration is required, and tickets can be purchased at the link here, by visiting www.bookclubsalida.com, and by visiting Book Club Salida’s downtown location. The Addiction Inoculation offers a practical, research-informed look at how parents, educators, and communities can help young people develop healthy relationships with alcohol and other substances. Rather than focusing solely on the dangers of substance use, the book explores the many factors that influence whether young people use substances and what adults can do to support healthy decision-making and resilience.
"Talking about youth substance use isn’t always easy. It can be uncomfortable, complicated, and deeply personal. And that is exactly why we need to have the conversation. When we create space to listen, learn, and talk openly about how we can better support our young people, we invest in more than prevention. We are building healthier youth, stronger towns, and a more connected, resilient community," says Jill Lewis, Chaffee County Youth Alliance Community Collaboration Coordinator.
