See the film. Meet the makers. Support GALS on the world stage:Join GALS: Auckland’s Rainbow Choir for a special early screening of Big Girls Don’t Cry, followed by an exclusive Q&A with writer/director Paloma Schneideman and lead actor Ani Palmer.
✨ See it before its nationwide release! ✨
Premiering at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival and going on to screen at SXSW, BFI Flare and TIFF Next Wave, Big Girls Don’t Cry is Paloma Schneideman’s acclaimed feature debut and was selected as the Opening Night film of the 2026 Whānau Mārama New Zealand International Film Festival.
Set in rural Aotearoa during the summer of 2006, the film follows 14-year-old Sid (Ani Palmer) as she navigates identity, desire, friendship and the complicated business of growing up.
🎤 AND STAY FOR THE Q&A 🎤
After the film, hear directly from Paloma Schneideman and Ani Palmer about making the film, its themes and characters, and bringing a queer Aotearoa story to the world.
You can even submit a question for Paloma and Ani when you buy your ticket!
🌈 HELP GALS GET TO PERTH 🌈
This special screening is also a fundraiser supporting GALS on our journey to Out & Loud Perth 2026, where we’ll join LGBTQIA+ choirs from Australia and beyond and take the voices of our rainbow community in Aotearoa to an international stage.
Every ticket helps get us there. 💜
