The Big Gay Campout is a Pay What You Can event. We believe everyone should have the opportunity to experience community, regardless of their financial situation. Registration is required, but everyone is welcome regardless of their ability to contribute.

About the Big Gay Campout
Celebrate spooky season with your chosen family during a weekend of camping, community, and Halloween fun!
Whether you're camping for the entire weekend or joining us during the day, you'll enjoy a welcoming atmosphere where LGBTQ+ people, allies, friends, and families of all ages can relax, connect, and make lasting memories.
Weekend activities include:
- Camping
- Community Bonfire
- Community Meals
- Pumpkin Carving
- Tie-Dye & Bleach-Dye (bring your own item to dye)
- Games & Activities
- Plenty of time to relax and enjoy the outdoors
Pay What You Can
Instead of a fixed registration fee, this event operates on a Pay What You Can model.
When registering through Zeffy, you'll have the opportunity to contribute toward the campground rental and activities such as community meals, firewood, s'mores, pumpkin carving, and craft supplies. These optional contributions help make the event possible and keep it accessible for everyone.
Optional Smiling Acres Attractions
During the weekend, Smiling Acres will also be offering two optional attractions. These attractions are hosted and operated by Smiling Acres, are not part of the VFRP event, and require separate admission.
- Rocky Horror Shadow Cast Performance — $20
- Screaming Acres Haunted Trail — $20
Tickets for these attractions can be purchased in advance through Smiling Acres at https://screamingacresmi.com/ or paid in cash on the day of the event.
Participation in these attractions is completely optional.
What to Bring
If you're camping overnight, don't forget your tent or camper, sleeping gear, toiletries, weather-appropriate clothing, camp chair, flashlight, and anything else you'll need for a comfortable weekend outdoors.
If you'd like to participate in the Tie-Dye & Bleach-Dye activity, please bring your own item to dye, such as a t-shirt, hoodie, tote bag, or pillowcase.
Halloween costumes are encouraged!
