Class Description: Contact Improvisation (CI) - Exploring CI as a question in motion we will explore the principles and practice of contact improvisation through physical skill work, perceptual tuning, body puzzles and practice time for focused dancing. We will tune our bodies to the physical forces and with each other, finding release and new discoveries in the point of contact, falling, following, leading, changing level, and flying. Unlock your potential and adaptability within the unknown, and discover the dance that is already there.
Week 1-2: low level work focus. Week 3-4: Mid-level weight exchange, Week 5-7: keeping the feet moving, awakening and priming the reflexes for weight exchange and change of level with a partner. Drop-ins are welcome at any time. Classes do not need to be taken in sequential order, adaptations or creative interests will always be adjusted with the group each night.
Building Accessibility Note: Wheelchair accessible venue is located at the corner of Robie Street and Charles Street. There is one accessible parking spot on the Charles Street side of the church. Other street parking is available in the area on Charles St., Davison St. and John St. The entrance is on Robie Street, with a wheelchair ramp or nine stairs up to the door. When you enter, the performance space will be directly in front of you, with the ticket table to the right, and the accessible all-gender single stall bathroom to the left.
