“Bhasaili Re” emerges from the ‘tug of war’ between the claims of the Manasa Mangal Kavya and the performers' disbelief in them. In this performance, the creators attempt to present their thoughts about the agency and purpose of women's lives, with Behula as the carrier of the conversation. The strange tale of Behula raises questions about women’s bodily agency, her place within society and choices. The shifting of her identity between the public and private realms provokes the possibility of a counter-narrative, addressing women's identity and the societal gaze.
