A hands-on 1-day workshop for Toastmasters ready to move from polished speeches to talks that change what a real audience does.
About this Event

You've done the work. You've stood on Toastmasters stages, taken on leadership roles, maybe placed in a contest or two. You know how to structure a speech, hold a room and manage your nerves.

So why does speaking in a boardroom, to a sceptical client, or in front of leadership still feel like a different sport?

Because Toastmasters is brilliant at what it was built for … courage, practice and a safe space to get better. But the real world asks for things a club room rarely tests…

· An audience who doesn't know the rules

· A decision you need

· Authority you must carry

· And the hard question you didn't see coming

This one-day workshop is built around closing this gap, without throwing away anything the club gave you.

What this workshop is

Beyond Toastmasters is a hands-on, small-group workshop (max 10) for Toastmasters at any level.

· We start by honouring what the club does well.

· Then we upgrade the habits that top out in real-world settings

· And finally we add what the club doesn't cover.

You'll work through a simple four-step framework, practise it in pairs and small groups and put it to the test in a filmed talk followed by a question you haven't seen.

What you'll learn

• Why ‘how did I do?’ is the wrong question and what to ask instead, what changed in the room?

• How to read a real audience with a written audience brief, and catch the assumptions you've been making

• How to set an outcome you can actually observe, and open with the answer and the ask

• How to carry authority/ executive presence … stillness, a downshifted voice, a deliberate pause and language that owns your message

• A 3-step response for hard questions and interruptions: Pause, Answer, Anchor

• Which Toastmasters habits to keep, which to upgrade and what to add!

Who this is for

• Toastmasters at any level, from newer members to contest speakers

• Newcomers and returners alike. If you attended the previous workshop, we build on it and if you didn't, you won't be behind!

• Anyone who speaks at work, leads a team, presents to clients or boards or wants their talks to move people to act

• This isn't a first-speech class. It assumes you're comfortable standing up and speaking

What you'll leave with

• A clear, memorable 4-step framework to use before and during any talk

• A completed audience brief and outcome statement for a real talk you need to give

• A filmed 2-minute talk (on your phone) and written feedback from every person in the room, including whether you got your outcome

• A calm, repeatable way to handle hard questions
