We are the living edge of an ancient story.Across cultures and spiritual traditions, the days surrounding All Hallows and Día de los Muertos have long honoured those who came before us.
For many, this season represents a threshold between worlds.
It is a time when the presence of our ancestors may be felt more deeply.
It also invites us to listen beyond the familiar boundaries of everyday life.
Beyond the Veil is an evening of sacred music, remembrance, and ancestral connection with Cosmic Throat Singer Matthew Kocel.
Through resonant throat singing, overtone harmonics, original music, acoustic instruments, silence, and ceremony, Matthew creates a space for deep listening.
His music invites the mind to become quiet and the deeper senses to awaken.
This evening is an opportunity to turn toward the lineage behind us.
We remember our ancestors and honour what they carried through their lives.
We honour their courage, struggles, sacrifices, wisdom, gifts, and unfinished dreams.
We also open ourselves to what may still be moving toward us through that lineage.
We may receive guidance, strength, insight, and a deeper remembrance of who we are.
Our relationship with the ancestors need not be one-sided.
As we become more conscious, we can begin to heal patterns that have travelled through generations.
Through forgiveness, awareness, and love, something within the lineage can change.
In this way, ancestral healing reaches in both directions.
We receive the gifts of those who came before us.
The choices we make today also shape what is carried forward to future generations.
At this extraordinary moment in human history, this remembrance feels especially important.
We live in a time of rapid change, uncertainty, and profound transformation.
Many structures and assumptions that have shaped human life are now being questioned, challenged, and reimagined.
Our ancestors lived through their own times of upheaval.
Their resilience is part of us.
Their lives made ours possible.
Perhaps the wisdom we need is not found only by looking ahead.
Some of it may come through remembering what lives behind us and within us.
Matthew’s music has been described as primal, otherworldly, and deeply meditative.
His resonant voice and original compositions create an atmosphere where ordinary awareness can soften.
This can open space for reflection, inner vision, emotional release, and connection.
This is not a performance about death.
It is an exploration of continuity, lineage, and the mysterious thread connecting past, present, and future generations.
As part of the ceremony, we will create a communal altar in front of the stage.
You are invited to bring a photograph or meaningful object connected with a departed loved one.
These offerings may be placed on the altar for the duration of the ceremony.
Together, we will create a shared space of remembrance, gratitude, and connection.
Come as you are.
You may arrive holding the memory of someone specific, or simply bring an openness to listen and remember.
Together, we will enter a field of sacred sound and honour the lives that made our own possible.
We will listen for what may be waiting just beyond the veil.
