MAGNOLIA GRANGE
Step through the doors of Magnolia Grange and into nearly two centuries of Virginia history. Built between 1822 and 1823 by Willian Winfree, this magnificant Federal-Style home once stood at the heart of a sprawling 600-acre esttate complete with a tavern, grist mill, and farmland. Named for the majestic circle of mangolia trees that once graced its front lawn, Magnolia Grange has witnessed generations of triumph, tragedy, and change. Today, it stands proudly preserved as one of Chesterfield County's most treasured landmarks, earning its place on both the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places.
Yet for many who have crossed its threshold, history isn't the only thing that lingers....
Over the years, Magnolia Grange has earned a reputation as one of Chesterfield County's most intriguing locations for reported paranormal activity. Visitors have described encountering a mysterious woman dressed in Victorian-era clothing quietly watching from the second-floor landing before vanishing without explanation. Wedding guests have reported greeting what they believed was a costume historical interpreter, only to discover that no one in period clothing was present. A visiting psychic medium also described encountering a solemn man dressed in black in the first-floor parlor believed by some to be William Winfree, who was tragically killed while conducting business in Richmond, VA during the 1840s. While these accounts remain unverified, they haved been shared by numerous visitors and have contributed to the home's reputation for unexplained experience.
Whether you're captivated by American history, fascinated by centuries-old architecture, or drawn to the mysteries that some believe still echo through its halls, Magnolia Grange offers an unforgettable journey into the past. Here, every room has a story.....and for some, those stories may not have reached their final chapter.
