We are happy to invite you to a very special afternoon celebrating an international artist, Shailaja S. Kamat, a professional artist from Mumbai, India.
Shailaja, at 79 years old, continues to pursue her passion for art, has garnered global experience with 17 exhibitions, and is renowned for her multi-media work showcasing themes of cityscapes, nature and landscapes.
Beyond the Shapes, now in Ottawa, is more than an art exhibition. It’s a celebration of creativity, passion, and a beautiful reminder that it’s never too late to keep doing what you love.
Come by, meet Shailaja, explore her collection, and spend an afternoon with us enjoying art, conversation, light entrées and drinks. All artwork will be available for purchase (card and cash accepted). Please feel free to bring friends & family. We look forward to seeing you there!

Meet the artist behind the exhibition! Here is a quick message from Shailaja before you arrive:
"I'm Shailaja Kamat, a Mumbai-based artist. My artistic journey is a fusion of various mediums, creating a symphony of expression. Through my work, I endeavour to bridge tradition with modernity, intertwining diverse elements to craft immersive experiences.
I was 8 years old when I began my artistic journey as a hobby, creating colourful greeting cards and paintings for my loved ones. My passion for art continued throughout my life: although my work was put on hold for 30 years in my adult life, my intrinsic love and motivation for my dream continued. At 75, I returned to the canvas with renewed purpose, and now at 79, I am realizing this dream of exhibiting internationally.
I want you to know that age is not a limit for pursuing hobbies, dreams and passions. Falling into the trap of being "older" is a myth. I wish for everyone not to remain idle as they age. I hope to inspire individuals to follow and immerse themselves in their passion to heal, move through tough experiences and feel joy.
I am eternally grateful for this opportunity to be here with you all, and I hope to get to know you very soon!"
