Welcome!As another fashion week season draws to a close, writer Sophie Axon bring together three emerging voices in Norwegian fashion – Anna Ringstad, Frida Sulistiono and Lucas Vallejo – to take stock of the season and consider a broader question: what do emerging fashion practitioners need from the fashion ecosystem today? What role does fashion week now play, and who gets to shape the narratives that surround it? And what alternative forms of infrastructure might offer designers beyond the runway itself?
Anna Ringstad is the designer of her eponymous fashion label who recently used performance and fashion at Oslo Runway to offer a sharp cultural commentary; Frida Sulistiono is the co-founder of Ponsu, whose independent publication debut Ponsu Mini-Mag launched after Oslo Runway. Lucas Vallejo is a member of Gratis, the designer-run showroom that presented ARTWEAR during Oslo Runway. These three voices experiment in each of their own way with how fashion can be shown, contextualised and brought into conversation, through the runway, independent publishing, exhibition-making and collective space. «Beyond the Runway» uses the end of fashion month not simply to review the season, but to ask what might come next.
The conversation will be moderated by writer, editor and cultural strategist Sophie Axon. Having begun her career working behind the scenes with brands and designers across Scandinavia, she now also covers fashion from an editorial perspective, including reviewing the runway shows she once helped bring to life.
