Ready to take your gardenia-growing skills to the next level?
Join former nursery owner Calvin Zeng for a specialized, hands-on workshop on the art and technique of grafting gardenias.
This workshop is designed for dedicated gardenia growers with some prior experience cultivating gardenias. It is especially recommended for participants who attended Calvin's previous workshops at Lyon Arboretum and have continued caring for the gardenia rootstock they received.
Participants will learn grafting techniques and have the opportunity to practice and will be the first to see the grafted Natalia Gardenia by Calvin that they will learn how do!
Everyone will also receive a free plant! Bouganvillea, Chinese Garden Pikake, and Tiare Gardenia will be provided by Calvin from his private collection!
Important information for participants:
- This is an intermediate-level workshop and is not intended as an introduction to gardenia growing.
- Previous participation in Calvin's gardenia workshops is strongly encouraged.
- Please bring your own utility knife blades -standard size for box cutters/utility knives
This workshop is a wonderful opportunity to build on your existing knowledge, refine your gardening skills, and learn directly from an experienced gardenia grower.
Space is limited to allow for hands-on instruction.
Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned plant lover, you’ll leave with practical skills, insider tips, and the confidence to grow your own vibrant display.
Participants can take home a FREE plant at the end of the class!

Time: 9:30 am - 11:30 am
Location: Lyon Arboretum Education Department - Children's Learning Center Classroom
Cost: $45.00
All proceeds from the class will go to the Lyon Arboretum Education Department School Tours program.
General tickets go on sale on October 16th
Friends of Lyon Arboretum members can register early.

What to bring/wear
- Bring utility/box cutter blades (standard size)
- Wear cool, comfortable clothing
- Bring mosquito repellent.
- Water to drink.
