About this Event
You've probably heard her sing. But how much do you know about the woman behind the voice?
If you've attended a Vancouver Canucks or Whitecaps game, there's a good chance you've heard Marie Hui perform the national anthem. She's also sung for the Seattle Seahawks and Mariners, and spent more than 20 years performing across Canada, the US and Asia.
But here's something you might not know: Marie didn't start her career in music.
She graduated from BCIT with a business degree and was working in real estate development marketing before making a decision that would completely change her life: leaving a secure corporate career to become a full-time singer.
And while many of us dream about turning something we love into a career, actually making a living from it is another story!
On Tuesday, November 24th, the Rotary Club of Vancouver welcomes Marie for a candid fireside chat about everything that happens beyond the stage.
We'll get to know the businesswoman behind the performer, what it really takes to build a career in an industry without a traditional career path, and how she's navigated the ups and downs of working for herself.
We'll also talk about the more personal side of her journey: raising two young children, navigating unexpected family challenges, finding balance when your work doesn't follow a nine-to-five schedule, and what success means to her today.
Marie now shares her experience with the next generation of performers as a voice and performance teacher at The Chorus Studio, adding another chapter to a career that continues to evolve.
This isn't just a conversation about music. It's about taking chances, reinventing yourself, building a business, and figuring things out along the way. Something many of us can relate to, whatever industry we work in.
And of course, there will be time for questions from the audience!
